John Pearson McCue passed away peacefully on May 30,2023, after battling a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. John, or JP, as he was known for much of his life, was born on December 6th, 1939, along with his twin sister Ruth Ann to Irene Shuttleworth McCue and John McCue of Old Greenwich, CT, joining his older sister, Judith Irene.
Spending his entire childhood in the idyllic village of Old Greenwich, CT, life was happy and free, learning to swim at Tod’s Point, skating at Binney Park and always having a friend nearby. In eighth grade, John left home to attend St. Peters Episcopal Private Boarding School in Peekskill NY. After 5 years he graduated and came home to begin his work career and what a career it became!
John started working on the production line at Electrolux, in Old Greenwich CT, and working part-time, at night, at the High Ridge Road Mobile Gas Station in Stamford, CT. An opportunity came from an ad in the newspaper and a friend of the family, Mr. Otto Hecht, for an open Inside Sales position, at Laminated Shim Company, in Glenbrook (Stamford) CT. After working at Laminated Shim Company, John became an Outside Sales Representative, at Alinabal, in Milford, CT. In 1975, John, with three other businessmen, started Blaisdell East Manufacturing, in South Norwalk, CT. In 1985, the four partners changed the name to Beta Shim Company, located in South Norwalk, CT. In 1988, John had the opportunity to become the sole owner of Beta Shim Company, and in 1995, he built his own building and moved to Shelton, CT. John has had many long tenured employees, some working for over 40 years. Many employees have said “John was the best boss, always available to his employees, very kind, with a firm handshake, a hug, very generous and putting everyone before himself, to serve them.”
His passions included his weekend home in Stratton VT, golf, his friends, and the many beloved dogs during his lifetime. Most of all, John loved his family; his wife Sandra, his two boys (Scott and Glenn), his twin daughters (Suzanne and Jennifer), and eleven grandchildren.
John and Sandy were long-time members of The First Congregational Church, in Old Greenwich CT. He loved cars from an early age and had the opportunity to own several classics. He enjoyed listening to The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaugn, Bob Seager, Eric Clapton, The Bee Gees, The Eagles, and the Moody Blues, and dancing the Lindy Hop with his wife Sandy at all events and celebrations.
John is survived by his loving wife Sandra, married on March 29th,1962, for 61 years. His son Scott McCue (Soraya Kurban) and grandchildren, Mackenzie and Maggie. Son Glenn McCue (Kristine) and grandchildren, Paige, Jackson, and Charlotte. Daughter Suzanne McCue (John Pedwano) and grandson John.
