Ethlyn Elfreda Shaw-Hamilton was born on 24th April 1944 in the Parish of Portland, Jamaica, to parents Ferdinand Shaw and Leanora Wallace (née Allen). Ethlyn spent her childhood and adolescent years in the district of Spring Bank, Portland. There she had her first child, a son named Leon McNaught.
Ethlyn later moved to Kingston, Jamaica living with her aunt- Godsis where she gained a daughter, Andrea Blackbourne. She also lived with her mother at different times. During this period, she was gainfully employed in several places, including the food production and textile industries as well as the Radio Station, LOVE 101 FM. In pursuit of a better life, she grasped at the opportunity to migrate, first to Canada and then to The Bahamas. It was during her residency in The Bahamas that she gave birth to her daughter, Leisha Prescod (Shaw), affectionately called Darie.
In her later years, she met and married Uton Hamilton (now deceased), a union that brought her great joy and radiated happiness not just to her immediate family, but to those around her. Ethlyn eventually joined her son in the United States, where she worked tirelessly in the medical field until her retirement.
A firm believer in the Christian faith, Ethlyn never hesitated to proclaim her beliefs wherever she resided. During her time in Jamaica, she was an active member of the Waltham Park New Testament Church of God, singing in the choir for many years. She then joined Mighty Move of God Deliverance Center in Norwalk, CT where she continued to be an active member. Even during her illness, when her responses to other stimuli were limited, she would always respond to worship and praise.
Her demure personality attracted many people, including the caregivers at Cambridge Manor Nursing Home in Fairfield, CT where she spent the last thirteen years of her life. Despite limited communication, she demonstrated enough kindness, courtesy, and gratitude to earn the high regards of those who cared for her.
Ethlyn's journey here has ended. Though tears will fall, her new life has begun.
She is predeceased by her parents, Ferdinand Shaw and Leanora Wallace, husband, Uton Hamilton, siblings- Reinford Shaw, Norma Brown (Shaw), Lorna Dadd (Wallace) and Maxwell Wallace and her twin who died at birth. Leaving behind to cherish her memories, Siblings- Joyce Wallace, Delroy Wallace and Esmie Moncrieffe (Shaw), her son Leon McNaught (Hope), daughters Leisha Prescod (Damion) and Andrea Blackbourne, currently residing in Jamaica. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Akeino, Devron, Akeem, Akeir and Akeira McNaught, Andre Matthews and Laiyah Prescod, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
