Born in Bronx, NY, to James L. Murphy and Mary M. (Pollick) Murphy, she worked at the advertising agency McAnn Erickson in NYC. When married, she moved with beloved husband John to Pittsburgh, PA, where they had three children, and then to Stamford CT, where she has spent the last 50 years.
Audrey’s life was focused on her family. She and her husband John of 61 years were inseparable, and the best partners in love and life. She most enjoyed time spent at the family’s frequent gatherings and supporting her children and grandchildren in sporting, school and cultural events.
Audrey was beautiful inside and out – always with a smile, always with class, and always putting others ahead of herself. She was involved in various committees and the Home School Association at SCHS and was a dedicated member of St. Gabriel parish. Over the years she joined numerous social groups and activities, where she forged lifelong friendships. She enjoyed entertaining and playing bridge, tennis and golf. Audrey also cherished her vacation travel with John, frequently with her sister Arline and brother-in-law Ken.
In addition to her husband, Audrey is survived by her three children -- Patricia (Mark) Lorusso of Norwalk, John (Colleen) Murphy of Fairfield, and Carolyn (Chris) Graham of Wilton – and 9 grandchildren – Meghan, Claire and Colleen Graham, John, Aidan and Alanna Murphy, and Julia, Stephen and Charles (Emma) Lorusso. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, her two sisters Arline Carroll and Marilyn Dietz, and her brother James Murphy.
A funeral mass will be held at St Gabriel Church on December 12, 2020. Due to current Connecticut restrictions, the mass will be limited to family and close friends. Online condolences may be offered at leopgallagherstamford.com.
