Ann P. (McKeon) Lombardo died July 9, 2012 after a tough two year battle with cancer. Mrs. Lombardo is survived by her husband of 48 years, J. Thomas Lombardo, two children, Judith Ann Lombardo of Indiana, and Kathleen Patrice Bushman (Geoffrey) of North Carolina, two grandchildren Sophia A. Bushman and Owen T. Bushman as well as a sister Katherine M. Domino of California, two nephews and one niece. She was predeceased by her parents James E. McKeon and Anna Irene Mullen, and several aunts and uncles.
Ann was born in 1929 and was a life-long resident of Stamford. She graduated from Stamford High School, class of 1947. She also attended Hoyt and Willard schools. Ann received her Bachelor's Degree from Danbury Teachers College (now Western Connecticut State University) and did graduate work at the University of Wyoming. In 1951 she returned to Hoyt and Northeast schools as a primary grade teacher for fifteen years when she left to become a stay-at-home mother for twenty years. She returned to teaching as an ESL teacher at Springdale School before retiring in 1990.
Ann loved athletics and participated in interschool competition in field hockey, soccer, basketball, and softball throughout her high school and college years.
She also loved to travel. As a young teacher, she and her friends drove across the U.S. twice, visiting many National Parks. They also traveled to Ireland and other countries in Europe. After marrying, she and her family especially enjoyed vacationing in Chatham, MA, Virginia Beach, Florida, California and Hawaii. They also traveled to all fifty states. Throughout her life she visited fifty-six foreign countries.
Later she worked as a travel agent for Around The World travel of New Canaan. For many years she volunteered as a leader for the Girl Scouts of America.
Friends may call at the Gallagher Funeral Home on Thursday July 12th from 4-7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Holy Spirit on Scofieldtown Road on Friday July 13th at 10:30am. Burial will follow at the Queen of Peace Cemetery.
