Robert James Stipes

Robert James Stipes, age 84, of Stafford, Virginia, formerly of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. He was born on July 4, 1939, in Coshocton, to the late Robert M. Stipes and Opal Marie Norman Stipes. Robert graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associates in Business and minored in Art. In 1962, he joined the United States Army, serving his country proudly. In November of 1965, he married Nancy (Cannon) Stipes who survives. Robert worked in Sales at Hecht’s and Macy’s before retiring in 2004. Both Robert and Nancy were devout Catholics and currently attended St. William of York Catholic Church in Harbour, Virginia. He enjoyed collecting antique pottery and glass, as well as antique boats and trains. He also restored frames with antique prints. Together, Robert and Nancy enjoyed traveling and Robert looked forward to he walks at Governors Island. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Stipes; his son, Coleman (Carolyn) Stipes of Las Vegas, NA; grandchildren, Tiffany Rose Paul, Eric David (Destinee) Stipes and Josephine Patricia (Christopher) Sanchez; and great-grandchildren, AnaMarie Paul, Bailey Stipes and Isabella Sanchez. Along with his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his two sisters, Shirley N. Piper and Donna Fern Porch. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service in Stafford, Virginia. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home in Coshocton, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday December 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coshocton, Ohio with Father Thomas Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Coshocton, Ohio with the Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.
