Mathilde "Tillie" A. Huber, 97, of Flagler Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the Windsor of Palm Coast. She was born on September 11, 1927, in Düsseldorf, Germany, to the late Herman Edward and Kaethe Osann.
Tillie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland. She met the love of her life, Robert Lee Huber and the two were married shortly thereafter. Together, they raised a son and shared many joyful years. Sadly, Robert passed away in 2002.
In the 1970s, she began a fulfilling career teaching special education students for approximately seven years before transitioning to teach swimming at the Fairfax YMCA in Fairfax, Virginia.
In 2016, Tillie moved to Florida to be closer to her son, Dan Huber, and his family. Tillie had a lifelong passion for figure skating, starting at a young age and returning to the ice in her 40s. Despite once having a deep fear of water, she courageously overcame her anxieties and earned multiple medals in swimming competitions while setting several records. A true animal lover, Tillie’s heart was especially fond of dogs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Huber, and her siblings, Charles Osann and Katherine Gekker.
Tillie is survived by her son, Dan Huber, and his wife, Ann Watterson, as well as numerous relatives and dear friends who will miss her greatly. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
