He is preceded in death by his parents John and Florence Andrews, his brothers Larry and Roger Andrews, and his wife Marsha Andrews.
Doug is survived by his sister Marsha Laughary; his daughters Melissa Andrews and Samantha Tunnell; his three grandchildren Shaun, Makayla, and Aaron; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1965. After high school, he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Eugene A Greene (DD-711). He married his high school sweetheart Marsha in June of 1969. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State with a bachelor’s degree.
Doug was well known for his sense of humor and his ability to tell any story in a humorous way. He often spoke of his time serving on the USS Eugene A Greene as a Machinist’s Mate Petty officer 3rd Class, often speaking of antics of his and his crewmates. In college, he was active with his fellow veterans (often retelling his antics from the service to fellow veterans in the Bear’s Den) and was active with the rifle club. In 1981, he moved his family to Texas where he worked as an office manager and then later switched careers to working with the state. Throughout his life, his one constant was his total devotion and love for his wife, Marsha. No matter whether he was at sea, in class, at work, or on vacation, home was wherever Marsha was.
A memorial is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church of Missouri City, located on 3900 Lexington Blvd, Missouri City, TX 77459. Reverend Jerome Brimmage will officiate the ceremony. A private military service will be scheduled at a future date not yet determined.
