Gary, affectionately known as Peanut and Pete, was born May 18 1969 in Loreauville to Audrey Bourque Horton and the late Gary Joseph Horton, Sr. and was one of two sons born to that union.
Peanut lived a simple life, yet filled with love and his favorite pastimes. He was one of the few that loved going to work, helping his brother Kim in his crawfish ponds. And he certainly enjoyed eating crawfish as much as he enjoyed harvesting them. Connie and Myra shared Peanut’s love of a good meal. His famous words were, “I’ll eat it”, meaning if someone didn’t finish their meal, he would take care of it for them. Peanut also helped with the cooking by cutting the onions and bell peppers while he listened to his favorite Zydeco song “Candyman” by Chris Ardoin, making sure the freezer was stocked and ready when a roux was needed or for any meal that called for onions and peppers.
When not helping in the ponds or at home, Peanut could be found at the store in Coteau Holmes visiting with the staff and talking with his friends when they came in. His other good time was going to the casino or playing his scratch off tickets in hopes of winning big.
Above all, Peanut lived and loved his life. He always had a smile for you and never complained much, as long as he was with family and friends….and sitting down to a good meal. Rest well Peanut, for you have earned your heavenly reward of eternal peace and rest. We love you.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Audrey Bourque Horton; his only brother, Kim Horton and wife Connie; three nieces whom he loved dearly, Myra Horton (Kaiser), Kimber Horton (Dutch) and Gabby Vicnair (Kent); a great niece and nephew, Ahnalise Horton and Gunner Fontenot; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his beloved pets, Bird and Bunny.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary J. Horton, Sr.; and his grandparents, Rufus and Thelma Horton and Albert and Yola Bourque.
In keeping with Peanuts wishes, there will be no public funeral services, but the family will celebrate his life with a crawfish boil in his memory.
