Thomas Stephen Majda, Jr., son of Thomas Majda, Sr. and Renee Majda (DeSpain) was born August 23, 1968 at Jewish hospital. He was baptized at St. Hedwig’s Church on 09/08/1968. He attended elementary school at St. Stephen Protomartyr and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1986. He received an Aassociate Degree from St. Louis Community College at Meramec in 1988 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Webster University in 1997.
He joined the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department January 8, 1990 and graduated as the best overall officer in his academy class. This is no surprise as he was athletic, agile, and extremely intelligent. He was an extraordinarily gifted writer to which many in the police department could attest. He was the editor for his family, so apologies if this bio runs long without his clarity and brevity.
Tom grew up with many great qualities. From his Dad, he learned to be a good provider, a good friend, a man who did not mince words. With both Tom and his Dad, you always knew where you stood. Both his parents instilled in him a good work ethic and sense of responsibility. From his Mom he learned to be compassionate and kind. She made him the center of her world without making him spoiled. He always knew how much she sacrificed for him. He grew up very close to his grandparents, John and Norma DeSpain, and from them he learned what a loving family should be. Unfortunately, his Majda grandparents died so young he did not remember them.
Tom met Karen working part time together at Busch Stadium, The Arena, and the Kiel Center in the mid 80’s. They began dating in the fall of 1987 and married on March 2, 1991 (coincidentally John and Norma’s 45th wedding anniversary). They had a great marriage to model. Tommy (Thomas Majda, III) was born in October of 1992 and Leslie in February of 1994. Tom was an amazing husband and father. His greatest legacy is the truly special young adults he raised. His family, his friendships, honesty, and loyalty are what defined him. Tom was so young when he joined the police department at 21, married at 22 and had his children at 24 and 25. He was mature beyond his years, an old soul some might say. Unfortunately, he also left us much too young.
Tom enjoyed so many things: fishing with his Dad and his Dad’s buddies beginning as a young teen and continuing his whole life, golfing and golf trips his entire adult life and most enjoyably with Tommy, playing softball both with cops and co-ed with Karen and other couples, bowling in the department league for many years and with Karen on his team a few of his final years, decades of thoroughbred horse racing and even several years of thoroughbred ownership and hanging out in neighborhood taverns with friends and / or cops after work, playing keno and trips to the casinos. He and Karen loved to travel together and with the kids. It was a huge priority to take his family on awesome vacations every year. Tom and Karen borrowed his Dad’s boat pre-marriage and went to Clearwater and Tablerock with friends. After they married, they owned a new fish and ski boat with Tom Sr, and pretty much also went to Tablerock or Lake of the Ozarks every summer with the kids. Tom taught them to fish, and tube, and ski. He was an amazing water skier himself from an early age. Most trips included the kids’ friends and everyone had a blast. In short, he and his family and friends had a lifetime of fun.
