Susan D. Morse

Susan Diane Morse passed away on June 23, 2021. She was born on March 23, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Ralph P. Morse and Betty Morse-Goedeker. Susan was a beloved sister to Judy Goedeker, Robert (Darlene) Goedeker, Ralph Morse, Mary Smith, Kathy Steel, Joe Goedeker, Karen (Tim) Weadon, Mike (Rebecca) Goedeker, Fun-loving Aunt to

Rob Goedeker, Rebecca Slyman, Paul James, Nate James, Jennifer Smith-Simms, Michelle Streb, Luke Goedeker, James Goedeker, Sarah Conner, Angela Ryles, Tim Weadon, David Weadon, Joy Goedeker and Michael Goedeker; Great Aunt to many.

Growing up second youngest in a family of nine children, Sue was an energetic, intelligent child. Torn dresses and scraped knees were her badge of honor. After graduating from Mehlville High School in 1976, Sue earned her BA from Webster University, then focused her energy on earning her MA in Mathematics from St. Louis University.

When she heard of a job opportunity as a Geospatial-Intelligence Analyst for the federal government, Sue knew she had found her ideal career path. Using her math and logic skills, with her natural desire to make a difference in the lives of others, she became a much-honored employee.

In 2002, Sue volunteered for deployment to the United States National Intelligence Center in Bosnia. When she witnessed the positive impact her work had on the safety and lives of others, she knew she had to continue on this path.

Sue deployed for multiple 4-month assignments in Afghanistan. Even though she faced great danger, including a terrorist attack on her base, she kept returning because the soldiers told her that the intelligence she provided them saved their lives.

Sue’s energy and enthusiasm permeated everything she did, including teaching math at St. Louis Community College. Making math fun was a special talent!

Family was always an essential part of Sue’s life. As she gained nieces and nephews, she amused them as babies, and became their favorite playmate as they grew up. Aunt Sue was always the most fun relative. In addition to being with family and entertaining her 14 nieces and nephews, Sue enjoyed reading, embroidery, travelling, and outdoor pursuits including hiking, cycling, softball, and geocaching.

She was always eager to help anyone with anything. Following a stroke in 2020, Sue suffered short-term memory loss, which necessitated living in assisted care. In the 8 months she resided at Friendship Village, Sue spent her time helping other less-able residents, becoming the unofficial Activities Coordinator. She was beloved by both residents and staff, and will be greatly missed.

Sue touched the lives of so many throughout in her years here on earth, and we will carry her memory forever in our hearts. Rest in eternal peace, Sue.
