Robert Michael Wagner

Robert M. Wagner, PhD. Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Carol Wagner (nee Schmal); dear father of Douglas M. (Jennifer) and Andrew C. (Laura) Wagner; loving grandfather of Shannon, Brendan, Brigid & Caitlin Wagner and Rachel, Bradley & Ryan Wagner; brother of Allen E. (Sally) Wagner; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and teacher to many.

Professor of Special Education at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville from 1970 – 2003. Retired as Professor Emeritus and honored with The Great Teacher Award in 2001. A proud St. Louis native, Robert graduated from Beaumont High School, University of Missouri-Columbia and St. Louis University.

Served our country in the United States Navy and the United States Army. Served his community with the Boy Scouts of America and his former parish, St. Angela Merici Catholic Church and current member of St. Francis Xavier College Church.

Served our children by educating teachers for more than 30 years. No matter how far he and Carol traveled, they always came home to welcome friends and family, serve a good meal, good drinks and great conversation.
