The state of Missouri lost a treasure when it lost Bob Bondurant. Along with MPHP lead physician Don McIntosh, Bob led Missouri in an enlightened approach to addictions that served MO well, by throwing a lifeline to those health care professionals willing to grab for it.  We are all imperfect humans, doing our best, but sometimes we, the healers, are the ones who fail to avail ourselves of the kind of care we freely offer to others.   The MPHP has returned many clinicians back to the clinical arena in a much better state than when they stepped out for their own healing.  I have known several who died of their addictions, and did not survive to have the opportunity to take advantage of the MPHP.  However, MO will continue to benefit for years from Bob's efforts, because those whom he helped will remain in the service of Missourians for many years to come.

Bob will be so missed for his unconditional love for those in need and for his solid friendship of those he met along the way. I will miss you Bob. More then you would ever know . 

I'll miss you Bob! I will always remember you as a trusted friend and colleague. 

For those who did not meet him personally, Bob was an earnest and knowledgable professional in the field of physician health and addiction recovery. He would say that, next to his family, MPHP was his life's work. He poured his heart into it. Bob's dedication to quality recovery for it's participants led to restored lives, families and careers for thousands! His stewardship of MPHP through political and financial challenges positioned the program to be there for generations to come!

I met Bob Bondurant only a few times, but he worked closely with my Dad, Don McIntosh, to get the physicians program up and running.   I recall many phone calls between the two even after Dad got cancer.   I know that there are many docs who will not be able to go to Bob's memorial or funeral or even post here because Bob and his program gave them a new start in life.  We got many calls at the house before Dad died, but we knew they'd not be able to come to a more public setting.  What a gift Bob gave to so many -- not only the docs he helped and their families, but the many, many patients that were given access to wonderful doctors who would otherwise have not been available.  

Dad often joked that most of his "clients" graduated in the top 10-5% of their medical school classes.  They were so used to being the "brightest person" in the room, that when something out of the blue took them down -- alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling, etc. -- they tried to solve the problem themselves.  Bob knew how to make clear that beyond "peeing in cup" on a regular basis,  these folks needed to learn how to re-connect with others and rely on the gifts of others.  He did it in such a warm, generous, and non-judgemental way that many believed in him before they believed again in themselves.  He saved so many lives.

I'm a little prejudiced, but I believe the world is a bit smaller without  Bob around.  I know there are wonderful others who will step up and carry the work forward, but that twinkle in the eye and nod of the head that Bob brought to any situation was unique to him alone.  My dad thought the world of him.  That's pretty high praise in my book.


Many of us who have worked in healthcare over the years have had the need to call Bob...what an incredible resource & help in dealing with some of the toughest problems we face as administrators.  Bob had the solutions and the heart.  A truly committed professional and a friend during tough times.

I first met with Bob in 2003, referred by his colleague Dr. Don McIntosh who had started the Missouri Physicians Health Program. I was seeking reinstatement of my medical license. At a difficult time in my life, Bob was positive and supportive. Always reachable, he tells it "like it is" and is there for the "docs." He helped me get my recovery program going and it still is kicking. Thank you Bob. May your memory be a blessing. 

I met Bob almost 15 years ago when I was getting my start.  He was one of my first clients.  Over the years, he became a dear friend and mentor.  Someone who believed in me from the day we met.  I will miss him dearly but carry him in my heart always.    A great man is gone, but will never be forgotten.  He will live on in this world through those of us he touched with his kindness, compassion, charm, and wit.

I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Mr. Bondurant before he fell ill.  I am relatively new to the Missouri Physicians Health Program, but the warm stories and fond memories I’ve heard so far about this man have been quite inspirational.  Rest in peace, Bob, and thank you for your dedication in helping distressed physicians take back control of their lives.  

Bob was a wonderful person who helped many physicians salvage their careers and find a better life.  I and my family will miss him.   Our condolences to Bob's family.

My wife and I met Robert June of last year.  
As a physician I thank him, his family and his staff for his support.
As a true advocate for physicians he has affected thousands upon thousands of patients.  He has helped physicians continue to practice in this rapidly changing and sometimes difficult healthcare landscape.
And, he has also helped many physicians accept and cope with the reality of aging and the end of their ability to practice medicine.  

As doctors, our lives are dedicated to caring for our patients.  Roberts life was dedicated to taking care of doctors.  He was the "doctor for doctors".

I am glad to have met such a wonderful, wonderful human being.
The results of his work as a physician advocate will be realized by both physicians and patients for many generations.
Robert you will be truly missed.  Thank you... thank you.....

I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH MY MEMORY OF MR. BOB BONDURANT WHO I MET AS NEWLY DIAGNOSED ALCOHOLIC AND IN A LARGE WAY HE HELPED GUIDE ME OUT OF THE ABYSS OF ALCOHOLISM. I HAVE BEEN SOBER OVER A YEAR NOW THANKS IN LARGE PART DUE TO MR. BONDERANT'S WORK WITH ME.

Bob was larger than life in our field -a true pioneer and legacy in Physician Health Programs plus so much more. He was someone that had your back, understood addiction, cared deeply and left those that he met feeling good about themselves and their futures, especially important because he helped the most desolate. He had a great laugh, a great love of life and family, and had an appreciation of wisdom in all forms. Me and my family (Dan and Dominic Angres) and my PSI team will forever hold him close to our hearts.
