Melton Morgan Lewis, Jr. was born on may 10, 1944 to Capt. Melton Morgan Lewis, Sr. and Sarah Mae (Ruff) Lewis in Union South Carolina, both of whom preceded him in death. Melton, known by his friends as Mel, graduated from Soldan High School, and afterwards attended the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Prior to graduating from college, Melton received a draft notice from the United States Armed forces, during the Vietnam Conflict, and chose to enlist into the United States Air Force where he served for four years receiving an honorable discharge.
After completion of military service, Melton began employment as the personal chauffeur for Mr. August A. Busch, owner of Anheuser-Busch Company, and later received a position as a salesman for Anheuser Busch products. Melton worked for the organization for more than thirty (30) years and retired from the Lohr Distributing section of the firm. Melton's job included many aspects with the Busch organization and one of his favorite jobs within the company was working at Busch Stadium and at times chauffeuring members of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and other executives from the company to and from events around St. Louis and around the country in the Anheuser Busch bus.
Melton loved people and never stopped talking about different events and all that was going on around him and his family that he loved. Melton loved to dance and he was the life of the party wherever he went and at any and all occasions.
Melton was preceded in death by his mother and father, Melton M. Lewis, Sr. and Sarah Mae Lewis, his brother Cottry Leroy Lewis, and Melton's wife, Sue Lewis. He leaves behind to mourn, his children, Joan Cassandra Lewis, Melton M. Lewis III (Bullet), Sharice Smith Lewis, Demetrius Lewis, Melina Lewis, and Meghan Lewis; a sister, Donna Joe (Lewis) Metcalf and brother Darrell C. Lewis, sister-in-law Lillie B. Lewis, fiancée Ms. Jimmie Ware, ex-wife Verda Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wealth of friends.
