Beloved husband for 61 years of Dottie Brennan; loving father of John A. III (Angela), James, Patrick (Janet), Ann (Todd) Buss, and the late Christopher (Elizabeth) Brennan; dear brother of Robert Brennan (Marge) and the late Virginia Grady Tufano; loving grandfather of Grace, Katie, Kelly, Kaitlyn, Ellie, Andrew, Alex, Jimmy, and Tori; dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Jack also was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John A. Brennan, Sr., and Agnes Keefe Brennan.
Jack was a lifelong St. Louisan and a proud graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School (1947), Saint Louis University High School (1951), and Saint Louis University (1955) where he made lasting friendships with his engaging wit and kindness. He had a love of all things sports and was a longtime Billikens Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan and season ticket holder.
Jack had a storied career in the packaging industry that included co-founding Crown Packaging Corporation in 1969 and serving as its President for nearly 30 years until his retirement.
Jack led by example in family, faith and fun; he sang in the choir at Our Lady of Pillar Catholic Church for more than 40 years. He was a natural leader and mentor known for his quick wit, kind words, daily crossword puzzles, voracious reading, much-sought-after duplicate bridge skills and colorful jokes.
He was an athlete and fierce competitor in his prime, with weekly handball, tennis and golf matches. When the time came to retire from competitive sports, Jack relished cheering his grandchildren on from the sidelines.
Jack and Dottie shone best with their family and radiated joy. They created lifelong memories with family trips—especially to their favorite places -- Lake of the Ozarks and Naples, Florida. They traveled the world in their retirement.
Jack was generous with his time and talents and served on the boards of Visitation Academy, the Foundation for the Special Education of Children, St. Patrick Center, and Stages St. Louis.
His kindness, selfless spirit and presence will be missed by all who crossed his path.
Many thanks to the care teams at Mari de Villa Skilled Nursing and St. Luke's Hospice. A special thanks to Dr. Bobby Shah, Dr. David Galli, and Physical Therapist Theresa Finlay.
