Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, James “Jim” Lawrence Vorbeck, age 86, of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Jim was born October 5, 1936 to John and Mary (nee McKelvey) Vorbeck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joan “Joann” (nee Schwaegel).
Those left to cherish his memory include his children; Greg (Kim) Vorbeck, and Vicki (Bob) Staed. Jim was a loving Papa to his grandchildren, Jill (Rob) Hackman, Brad (Shauna) Vorbeck, Jimmy Staed, Caitlin (Taylor) Howe, Elizabeth Staed, and Brendan Staed. He was known as “GP” to his great-grandchildren, Liam, Hazel, and Nora. He was a dear brother, an uncle, a cousin and friend to many.
Jim was best known for being a handy-man, he used his resourceful talents when it came to fixing things around the house. He enjoyed taking his family tent camping and sitting around the campfire. Over the years Jim and his wife, Joann loved taking cruises and traveling with their friends. Jim also served in the United States Army Reserves.
A gathering of family and friends for Jim will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Mathias Parish, 796 Buckley Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. Following the gathering will be a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM. The family is planning a private committal service at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum in St. Louis, Missouri.
