Harry was a retired Fire Captain of the St. Louis Fire Department, formerly of Engine 19. He is survived by his sister, Marie (Edward) Reilly. He was preceded in death by his father Henry A. Berne, also a St. Louis Firefighter, and his mother, Marigold (nee' Cella) Berne.
Harry retired from the St. Louis Fire Department on February 12, 1983. From 1989 to 1994, he served as the historian for the fire department. For fun, Harry liked to ride the river boats, and took more than 70 trips up and down the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Minnesota, some on the Delta Queen.
Due to inclement weather, the services have been rescheduled to Thursday, February 10.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 10 from 9-10am at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109, with a Funeral Service to follow at 10am. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
