Gregory Michael Miller was born on February 5, 1981 and found the Sublime Peace he had been longing for around 2:30am Tuesday June 12, 2018. He is free of the disease of drugs and alcohol used to find that peace.
Our Greg was a follower of Henry David Thoreau and longed for his own Walden Pond. Greg’s greatest passion was for music, especially the guitar and he would spend hours playing his music and listening to the works of others, most prominently the works of Sublime. Greg aspired to write poetry and songs to go along with his guitar. He would jam for hours with the recordings of established artists digging deep int the music, always with a smile on his face.
Greg especially loved the canines in his life – the family dogs Missy, Duchess, Molly and Shadow.
Greg was sensitive and endearing. He took pleasure from simple things – a rainbow – the moon and star in the sky, calling on family members to come see what he was seeing.
Greg would do the most caring things – once singing a favorite song – “Only God Knows Why” at the resting place of the best friend of his middle brother Scott, Matt. Matt loved this song and would always ask Greg to play it.
Greg loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, and fishing. One of his happiest times was taking his nephew Liam, fishing at Willmore Park. It was a joy to watch.
Greg was a person of many skills, taking on any job he was tasked to do. An aspiring cook – his shish- kabobs were awesome, a tuck pointer, carpenter, plumber and electrician. He proudly graduated from Ranken Technical College in 2013 with a two-year degree in HVAC, with an A average.
Greg attended St. Joan of Arc and St. John the Baptist grade schools. He was a 2000 graduate of West County Technical High School. Greg was a member of Scout Troop 62 of St. Joan of Arc. He proudly trained for and completed a trip to Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico where scouts participate in twelve-day treks that are rugged, hard, beautiful and amazing.
Greg was welcomed to heaven by his maternal grandmother Marion E. and maternal grandpa Edward G. He shares his angel date with Grandma Baker and as his brother Scott said, “It was like he called down to his Grandpa Miller and said “Hey, it is fun up here come on up.” And so, he did about an hour later.
Greg’s memory will be honored by his mom Denise, father Michael, Grandma Marge Miller, Denise’s fiancée Greg’s “step-dad” Tim Bagwell, brothers, Scott and Kevin, sister-in-law Lisa, nephews. Liam, Gavin and Finn. Aunts, Kathy, Linda, Pam and uncles Bob, Mark and Tom, half sister Lily as well as many cousins along with friends who were extremely kind and caring and who tried hard to help him. He was blessed to have you all in his life. Greg was loved very much. And to his beloved brothers Scott and Kevin, Greg was so grateful that you tried to keep him safe, watch out for him, and offered your company. Greg is thankful that Pam J our interventionist moved heaven and earth to try and help him.
Please remember, no one wakes up one morning and decides to become an addict. Please remember their humanity and say a prayer that they find the peace and happiness while hope is still there. Addiction is truly a disease as heart breaking as any other serious illness.
A celebration of life party is pending and will be announced.
