Gary James Walters

Gary James Walters, age 77, of Inverness, Florida passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Gary lived a life marked by dedication to his family, hard work, and a love for the outdoors.

Gary was born on January 19, 1947 in Richmond Heights, Missouri to the late James Russell Walters and Margaret May Erxleben. He graduated from Webster Groves High School in 1965.

Gary and his wife Judy bought a house in Rock Hill, Missouri in 1974. There they raised 4 kids and spent many happy years there making memories with his children and grandchildren.

Gary proudly served in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and community service. Following his military service, he worked as a landscaper at Green Thumb Nursery for many years, where he developed a deep appreciation for nature and beauty. His career continued with the city of Kirkwood's street department, where he dedicated 13 years before retiring in 2019. After retiring, he then moved to Inverness, Florida in 2021 to escape the cold winters of Missouri.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Gary was known for his devotion to his family. He cherished time spent camping, playing volleyball, and hosting family BBQs. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense joy in creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

Gary is preceded in death by his soulmate, Judy, they raised 4 wonderful children: Christine (David) Doyle, Dawn (Bobby) Kimmich, Matt Walters, and Andrea Walters. They had 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Joyce (Robert) Caby and his brother, Edward Walters. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many loved ones. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the fullness of his life and the legacy of love and strength he leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gary's memory to the American Cancer Society.

A visitation for Gary will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kriegshauser Mortuary-West Chapel, 9450 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125.
