Solomon, Dorothy 90 years old, passed away peacefully at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City on Friday evening, March 30th. Born in St. Louis on August 6, 1921, Dorothy was the daughter of Sam and Theresa Altman, and the older sister of Martin Altman, also of St. Louis. Dorothy attended Blewett High School, and married Ely Solomon in 1942. Dorothy and Ely had two children, Gene Solomon of Portland, Oregon, and Roberta Solomon of Kansas City, Mo. Ely passed away in 1985. Dorothy worked at several jobs, but at the age of 61, began the career that would define her life when she was hired to sell advertising for the St. Louis Suburban Journals. After several years, she joined the staff of the St. Louis Jewish Light, and worked there until she moved to Kansas City at the age of 81. A few years after her husband Ely passed away, Dorothy met her longtime companion, Henry Changar, through a personal ad for seniors in the Jewish Light. They were together for 13 years, dancing several times a week, attending concerts and theatrical performances, and traveling. Dorothy loved gardening and became the maven of the parking lot garden at Congregation Kol Ami in Prairie Village. She was one of the congregation's early members and was so grateful to be welcomed as part of a supportive, joyful community. She was amazed to find so many true friends there in the latter years of her life.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 2, 10:30 AM, at United Hebrew Cemetery, 7855 Canton Ave. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Kol Ami, 7501 Belinder Rd., Prairie Village, KS.
