Donald was born September 13, 1967 in St. Louis to Sharon McClain Yorker and the late Robert Yorker. He is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years, Theresa (nee Guempel), his sister Becky, his niece Lizz, cousins, aunts and uncles and many, many friends.
Don was a graduate of Marion Grade School in St. Louis. He attended Central High School for two year in Flat River, MO (now Park Hills) then Ritenour High School in St. Louis where he graduated in 1986. In 2009 he returned to college earning an Associate in Applied Science for Management & Supervisory Development in 2011 from St. Louis Community College, and had recently begun taking classes toward a Bachelor's degree. Don worked very hard all his life. For the past eight years he was with US Tape & Label in the West Port area as Traffic Manager in shipping and receiving.
Along with his wife, Don was an active member of Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister and volunteering with Boy Scouts and at many Church sponsored events. He was also proud of his time years ago with other parishes and Teens Encounter Christ.
Don loved sports, especially baseball and especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a walking encyclopedia of Cardinal's history, players & stats and loved going to Cardinals games - always filling out a scorecard. Growing up he participated in many different sports. As an adult he played in several softball and volleyball leagues including with the Catholic Singles Alumni Club where he served as athletic director 2008-2010 and 2012-2013. Although "retired" from volleyball, he continued playing softball one or more nights per week during softball season.
He was also a huge fan of online video games like World of Warcraft, and movies - especially westerns, action, and sci-fi. His personal movie library was extensive.
Because of problems with his back, Don was never able to serve in the military as he would have liked, following in the footsteps of his grandfathers, father and uncles. Since he was also an avid history buff, he instead participated in Civil war re-enacting with the Missouri 2nd and 9th Infantry Units whenever he could.
Don had many friends and was a good friend to many. He partook in numerous social and charitable events each year and enjoyed attending Trivia Nights with the Crowley's and various other friends and family. Don was a big man, 6’5” tall, but kind, gentle and thoughtful. He never hurt anyone. On the contrary, he was always willing to help in any way he could. Neighbors recall his shoveling their driveways when it snowed, cooking meals for them, carrying heavy packages and just generally being on call to help.
Visitation for Don will be Thursday evening, February 11 from 4-8 at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa St. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, 6596 Smiley Ave at 11 am Friday, February 12.
If desired, donations may be made in his honor to Epiphany of Our Lord Church or Affton Christian Food Pantry. See the links below to give online.
