Carol Maurine Carson was born in St. Louis, Missouri August 19, 1931 to parents George and Clara Lee Zeller. She was one of two children. Carol and Jerry Carson were married in 1966, where they vowed “Till Death Do Us Part.” Carol and Jerry fulfilled that obligation on September 9, 2022, at the age of 91, when she passed from this life while in the arms of her loving husband of 55 years.
She is survived by her husband Gerald “Jerry” Carson. Jerry & Carol celebrated their golden wedding anniversary 2016. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Lee Fugel, and nephew Thomas Fugel. She is survived by nephew James Fugel, niece Cathy Fugel Ragsdale, and many great nephews and nieces.
Carol graduated from Soldan High School in St. Louis, and continued her education at Harris Teachers College, graduating in 1952 with an Associate of Arts degree, and continuing her education at Washington University. She worked at Anheuser Busch and Gardner Advertising in St. Louis, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Carol and Jerry enjoyed traveling to China, France, Italy, and Argentina, and ocean cruising. Their recreational passion was ballroom dancing. They traveled to Buenos Aires to study tango. Carol enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and lunch with her many friends. In 2014 Carol was told by doctors that she only had months to live, and should be on hospice, but through love and care of her husband and nursing staff, she was able to enjoy 8 more years of life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Celebration will be held at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E Bowman Avenue, Las Cruces NM on Friday, September 23, 2022 from 1:30-4pm. Their phone number is 575-526-2419. A Pastoral Meditation will be led by Reverend Story of First Presbyterian Church from 3-3:20pm.
Graveside services will be Friday, September 30th. Family and friends are invited to gather at 2:15pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street St. Louis MO 63109. We will go in procession together with traffic escort to Resurrection Cemetery in Saint Louis for the Committal Service and Interment at 2:45pm.
