Young, Barbara L. age 82, baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection on May 15, 2012. Beloved wife of the late William T. Young; loving mother of Thomas W. (Marian), Robert M. “Bo”, Dick J. (Amy) of Rolla, Catherine A., Michael E. (Janet) and the late Stephen J. Young; loving grandmother of Nick (fiancé – Daniela), Tom, Ryan, Matt, Adam, Michael, Sean, Sarah and Olivia; dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend of many.
Barbara was born May 19, 1929 in St. Louis to Joseph and Grace (nee Tinker) Ahearn and grew up as an only child. She was a graduate of Southwest High school. She later married William T. Young and together they raised their six children. Barbara loved to spend time with William and since his job required him to travel frequently she was afforded the opportunity to go with him to several business conventions. Barbara was a member of the St. Joan of Arc Parish for more than 50 years and was a member of the St. Joan of Arc Sodality. She was musically gifted and played the piano beautifully, even by ear. Barbara was also an avid card player and was especially fond of poker. Her greatest love was her family and she absolutely adored all of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral from Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary (6464 Chippewa at Watson) on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 12:00 PM to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for a funeral Mass at 12:30 PM. The interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation: Thursday from 3-8 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to the American Lung Assoc.
