Michael James Roeder, age 74, of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Ann (Halpin) Roeder; and his three sons Ben (Christine) Roeder and their daughters Julia and Madeleine; Alex (Elizabeth) Roeder; and Tom (Lizzy) Roeder and their children Lucy and Sam; and his dear brother Kurt (Nancy) Roeder. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Evelyn, his step-mother Jane, and his brother Stephen.
He was born on September 25, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio while his parents were attending Ohio State University, and grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio. As a young man, Michael was a free spirit who lived an adventurous life. He met Ann while attending Kent State University, hitchhiked across the country, living in San Francisco for a time in the early 1970s, and attended music festivals, including Woodstock.
Michael entered the field of computer programming in its infancy. His career started in the Cleveland area, and eventually the family relocated to the Detroit area for a job with Chrysler in the mid-1980s. He enjoyed his career as a computer programmer and systems analyst, retiring from Chrysler in 2008.
His retirement consisted of tinkering for endless hours in his woodworking shop, reading, researching family genealogy, listening to music, and spoiling his grandchildren. He and Ann took multiple trips a year to Cleveland to spend time with the extended family, toured Europe with friends, and trips throughout Michigan. He cherished the time he spent with Ann and their grandkids - attending games and recitals, playgrounds, and passing along his fondness for cheesecake. Michael loved his wife and family and was never happier than when sitting in the backyard with everyone, relaxing in the sun, enjoying a cold beer.
