Mr. Lackey, the most poised fair and understanding man I knew growing up. He never judged, shot from the hip and one was extremely comfortable in his presence.  Thanks for being so honest and fair with me Mr. Lackey. You were among the best men I've known.

Mr Lackey (& Mrs of course) was always so welcoming to our family. I always enjoyed chit chating with him. What a great man!

Grandpa Jim always made me laugh with his sense of humor,  that's what I adored most about him. He would always give me a big hug and say "how you doin' squirt!"  I always found that funny.  He was a very humble man and always cared about what was going on in my life. The most important thing I took away from him was how much love her had, he loved grandma Laura with all his heart.  I would watch him on Christmas with a big smile on his face just watching the joy on his grand kids faces. He never had anything bad to say, he was the most genuine person I knew. -Love Alex 

If I had to choose one word to describe Grandpa Lackey: GENUINE.

At family gatherings, he was one of my favorite people to talk with. He was attentive and responsive, genuine. He told you what was on his mind. He listened. These are all exemplary qualities that Jim characterized for his, at times, distracted and chaotic flock. His patience, an anchor to keep us all grounded.

Big Jim (as he is known in the plumbing world), was a hard-working boss. Himself, a hard worker, he expected the same from his crew.

I remember one project when Preston, Michael and I toiled over packed earth, mining for diamonds. Or were we just building the sewer lines for a new burger chain? Either way, Big Jim was supervising that week. In many cases, a grandfather is easier to work for than a father. I don’t remember that being the case for us at Little D’s Plumbing. 

When Derek was on site, you knew there was some serious business he had with the other construction guys, but he liked to make sure we were comfortable and taking breaks, as needed. 

When Big Jim was supervising, we felt the pressure to live up to his work ethic! In a playful and encouraging way, he would point out our inadequacies, keeping us honest. He had a funny way of teasing us youngsters, with comments like: “What do ya need water for? Just keep digging and you should find some down there.” 
Grandpa Lackey holds you accountable. 
Grandpa Lackey influenced me greatly. 
James Lackey, genuine human. 


Jim Lackey Jr. was a remarkable gentleman and friend.  He and Laura raised wonderful children and grandchildren with whom  many  I have a lasting friendship.  My thoughts are with the family as they handle grief but also celebrate the life of someone so very special.  So many years....but not nearly enough.  All of you are in my thoughts and prayers!
