Helen C. Randall of Harrison Township, age 95, passed away August 25, 2016 at Beaumont Hospital surrounded by family. She was born July 23, 1921 in Hamtramck, Michigan, to Anthony & Bernice (Wisnowski) Rutkowski.
At 22 she served in the U.S.Army during WWII. While enlisted Helen became the personal secretary to a General. She met her husband, Raymond, in Georgia in the lobby of the hotel where they were both staying. She was in town for a friend's wedding and he had won a sharp shooting contest, the prize was a weekend pass. They bonded over both being in the military and after 9 months of correspondence and long distance dating they were married. While Ray was deployed Helen was one of the "Rosie the Riveter" women working at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. She started as a line worker and with her attention to detail was promoted to inspector. While working at the plant she was able to save enough money to buy their first home, without Ray knowing.
Once Ray left the service they started the Ray Randall & Associated Insurance Agency. Helen and Ray raised their children in the business teaching them to type, file documents and day to day operations. They ran the agency until 1980, and upon retirement Helen and Ray bought a boat. They enjoyed taking family and friends on trips locally as well as to Mackinaw and Cedar Point. Helen volunteered to run the voting booths of the Harrison Township election board.She and Ray were active members of the VFW, St. Hubert's Church, St.Vincent de Paul Society and ran the doll booth at church festivals annually. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her yard and landscaping.
She is survived by her children, Raymond C. (Cheryl) Randall, Jr., Susan (Gerald) Berger, Charles P. Randall, Carol Randall Olsen; eight grandchildren, Susan (Darren) Sipos, Dr. Amanda (Nathan) Weber, Gerald Berger, Rebecca Berger, Harold Randall, Julia Randall, Jessica Olsen, Randall Olsen; 5 great grandchildren, Henrik, Margaret, Madeline, Francesca, and Elly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Raymond; and two siblings, Phyllis Kutzleb and Alphonse Rutkowski. Visitation will be Monday, August 29, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home – 28433 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores with a Rosary Service at 7pm. A visitation will be held at St. Hubert Church – Harrison Township on Tuesday, August 30 10:30 until the funeral mass 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Kaul Funeral Home, St. Clair Shores.
