Bernard (Bernie) taught English, Drama, and Forensics for 35 years at Carl Brablec/Roseville High School in Roseville, MI. Bernie enjoyed teaching and coaching the high school’s Forensic team, taking them to compete at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island each spring. He was inducted into the Michigan Speech Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995. Bernie was a captivating storyteller and loved to get a good laugh from friends and family.
Bernie loved being outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and boating. He cherished all the time he spent with his friends and family enjoying these activities.
Bernie and his wife Kathy enjoyed their retirement for many years traveling in their RV to Texas, the Florida Keys, Georgia, Louisiana, and Alpena, MI. They also traveled to Hawaii and Kodiak Island, AK to spend time with their son Jody and his family.
Bernard was the beloved husband of 58 years to Kathleen Nummer, cherished father to Kelly (Mike) Boss and Jody (Natasha) Nummer. He was adored by his grandchildren, Ashley (Brad) VandeVorde, Shelby (Steven) Van Der Merwe, Gabe (Abbey) Nummer, Joshua (Annika) Nummer, Willem Nummer, Zane Nummer, Hunter (Ashton) Boss, Jake Boss, and Keegan Boss. Bernie is also survived by five loving great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, his sister Rose Marie (Ralph) Kaiser, sisters-in-law, Jan (Mark) Topor and Mary Phyl (the late Allan) Sieger, Linda Nummer, and brother-in-law, Dexter (the late Claudia) Sieger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Rose Marie Nummer and brother, David Nummer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church-Clinton Township, or the Roseville Community Schools Scholarship Foundation.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. (Gathering 10:30 a.m.) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38900 Harper Ave., Clinton Twp, MI.
