Virginia A Koenig

Ginny Alrutz Koenig was born on June 23, 1945 in Paducah, KY to Jim and Helen Alrutz. Besides her older brother Tom, there were four more brothers…Paul (Paula), Peter, Edward (Laura), Douglas (Elizabeth) and her sister Elaine. The family eventually moved to New Jersey. Her favorite place was at her grandparents’ beach house in Point Pleasant Beach. She attended St. Francis University in PA where she met her future husband Peter the first week of school. While they both dated others during the first two years, they became an “item” towards the end of their sophomore year. In their junior year, Pete asked Ginny to marry him in the Chapel on campus. They married the first week after they graduated from college in June, 1967. In July 1968, and then in April 1971, Ginny and Pete were blessed with having daughters, Kristy and Cindy. Kristy is married to Joe and Cindy married Paul. We are proud of the husbands they both chose. Ginny was extremely proud of her grandchildren—Kara, Eliana, Jenna, Braden and Nicolas. She enjoyed teaching them how to knit, bake, play the piano and spent many hours playing a variety of games with them. She will be in our hearts and minds as the grandkids graduate from high school, go to college and attain other major life experiences. Ginny taught kindergarten for 20 years. It wasn’t uncommon for parents of the kids she taught to send her letters years later thanking her for the positive educational influence she had with their children. She had a very special relationship with the “wee” ones. Ginny had many friends in the various activities she enjoyed—Qi Gong, Pilates, her weekly card game with the ladies and her Spiritual group. She was friends with everyone she ever met. In the 56 years I’ve known her, she never said a cross word about anyone but loved and respected everyone. She was a very special person to me and I will miss her easy mannerism, her thoughtfulness, her insightfulness and most of all her companionship.
