Sophie Valesky

Sophie Valesky, an angel; wife of Bernie Valesky was born in the mountains of Cumbola, Pennsylvania in 1928 to a home where she was the youngest of 6 other siblings. She attended Blythe High School where she learned Latin and spoke Polish in their home. She was a pioneer of the era as she attended Business College in a city 30 minutes away in the 1940s. Her childhood neighborhood and friends held a very dear place in her heart throughout her life that was often shared. She moved to Alexandria Virginia in 1956 with Bernie, her sister, and her sister’s husband to provide more opportunities for her children. In the 1960s her and Bernie helped build Queen of Apostles Church where she would work for the next 25 years. She would attend to recess for the children and would march on Washington every year in the Right to Life March. All children were loved by her. They brought her joy. She was the epitome of happiness while carrying herself with humility and grace always surrounded by people who were very fond of her. Her and Bernie were very family first and gave their all every day for the betterment of her two sons who they raised in their image. She was able to live a long and healthy life to the fullest. Just last week she had lunch with a friend and enjoyed her garden in the afternoon sun. She left us peacefully at home on December 2nd with her family that she held onto dearly until it was her time to be with our Father. She is survived by her two sons Thomas and Paul who will continue to live in her legacy. Sto-Lat!

A viewing will be held Monday December 9th from 5 to 8pm at Demaine funeral home on Backlick Road in Springfield, VA. The funeral Mass will be held at Queen of Apostles Church on Sano Street in Alexandria, Va at 11 am on Tuesday December 10th. She will be laid to rest afterwards at 1pm at National Memorial Park on Lee Highway in Falls Church in the Last Supper burial area directly following Mass.
