Bob was born on April 29, 1929, in Billings, Montana. He joined the Army as an enlisted soldier in November 1948, and earned a commission as a Warrant Officer in November 1961. While stationed in Japan he met and married Matsuko Iwase in 1952. He travelled with his family to various Army posts in the US, Japan and Germany. While in the Army, Bob received many awards, including The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces in 1969. Bob retired from the Army in 1974 at the rank of Major. Bob lived in Northern Virginia since 1966. His last civilian employment was with Northern Virginia Community College as an Inventory Manager. He retired in 1994. An avid bowler, Bob was a long time member of the USBC and enjoyed bowling in many leagues and tournaments. He was a voracious reader and also enjoyed entering contests. Some of Bob’s biggest wins included trips to Hawaii and Australia, a new car, an ATV and a van which he generously gifted to his daughter to be used to transport homeless dogs for Mutt Love Rescue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Bob’s name be made to: Mutt Love Rescue P.O. Box 1005 Fairfax, VA 22038 http://muttloverescue.org or Central Catholic High School 7401 SE Stark Street Portland, OR 97214 http://www.centralcatholichigh.org/ **In Our Hearts** We thought of you with love today, But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday. And days before that too. We think of you in silence. We often speak your name. Now all we have is memories. And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake. With which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our heart. The family acknowledges, with heartfelt gratitude, the many kind gestures and words of comfort extended to them during these hours of bereavement.
