Richard Sheridan Hartman, 94, of Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, passed away on February 3, 2022, at home.
Richard was born January 5th, 1928, to Mary and Vincent Hartman in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended
North Catholic High School and graduated in 1945. He enlisted in the Marine Corps. He returned to
Philadelphia in 1947 and entered Villanova College in the Naval ROTC program. He graduated in 1951
And was commissioned a 2nd LT in the Marine Corps. He married Catherine Winters on November 10th,
1951 in Quantico, Virginia. After serving tours in Korea and Vietnam, earning his Masters degree, as well
as serving as team chief of the National Emergency Airborne Command Post at Andrews AFB and
Director of the C3 section at the Marine Corp Development Center at Quantico, he retired as a Colonel
In 1981
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Catherine, and Sister Jeanne.
Richard is survived by his son Richard, Jr. and wife Melissa, son Paul and wife Tracy, daughter Mary
and partner Douglas, son Stephen and wife Heather, grandsons Christopher, R.J., Phillip, Nicholas, Chad
and David, granddaughters Jamie and Vivien, and great grandchildren Keagan, Sienna, Vaughn, Ellis,
Caris, Lucas, and Roselyn
Interment service to be held at Quantico National Cemetery on March 3, 2022. Memorial service is
scheduled for the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico on July 23rd, 2022.
The family requests any memorial gifts be donated to the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society
(nmcrs.org) or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (macular.org).
The family also wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at The Fairfax and to Ms. Sandy
Dunbar for her kindness, care, and attention.
