Local Banker and Church Activist
Ralph Leonard Duke, JR, died of diabetes complications in Alexandria, VA on May 21, 2014.
Born in Berlin, Germany while his parents were on Military Duty, Ralph Jr (Len) was an avid Church Activist in the Northern Virginia area and a local mortgage banker, servicing mortgage client and financial institutions for over 30 years. Len also served in the 1970s in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the artillery field. Len was a fanatical sports enthusiast, always supporting the local Washington, DC sports teams.
Survivors include his son, daughter and son-in-law —James F. Duke of Shirlington, VA and Lauren & Joshua Rhoades of Springfield, VA. Ralph Jr was also survived by three sisters- Elizabeth A. Kirk of Spring, Texas; Mary J. Kelley of Sterling Park, Virginia; Donna McCloud of Springfield, Virginia and one brother – James T. Duke of Sterling, Virginia, as well as 3 grandchildren: Nathan, Jacqueline & Brandon, and 14 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151 on Wednesday, June 18 from 5 pm to 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, June 19 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery later in 2014.
