Jeanne was born in Bedford County Pennsylvania to Rebecca and Emerson Custis on March 2nd, 1923 and attended Springfield Township High School. She married Edward George Malone on April 23rd 1946 in Washington DC. She worked for the Fairfax County Park Authority for 20 years along with many other jobs, including Lockheed in the 1940s. She was a friend of Langley Hill Friends Meeting for many years. She was a master gardener, (She founded Sunny Acres Garden Club in Annandale Virginia) painter, potter, chef and stained-glass enthusiast but she is best known for her insatiable love of travel. She traveled to over 100 countries including, Antarctica, Northern Canada and famously a hike on Komodo dragon island when she was 96. She shared this passion with her children and grandchildren. Jean was greatly loved by everyone she met, even towards the end when her health was failing, nurses and administrators alike adored her.
Jean is preceded in death by her daughter Diane Louise Malone, her son Michael Kevin Malone and her husband Edward George Malone Sr.
Jean is survived by her sons Edward George (Ted) Malone Jr. And David Shawn Malone. She leaves nine Grandchildren Elizabeth, Mark and Rebecca Flaum, Aemon, Colin, Evan, Regan, D’Laney and Gus Malone. She also leaves her beloved great grandchildren, Annaleigh, Colt, Beau, Grace, Finn, Leonidas, Ezra and Aila.
There will be a celebration of her incredible life on Tuesday September 12th at 3:00 PM at Morven Park in Leesburg VA outside in their gardens. There will be a reception immediately following.
The family of Jean wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful people at Heritage Hall in Leesburg VA for taking care of her so well during her final days.
