Don graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in Political Science in 1960. He then completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. While serving as an officer in the Navy, he attended George Washington University School of Law and graduated in 1966, with a subsequent designation to the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps. Don served on active duty for 9 years and ultimately served a total of 26 years in the Navy, continuing his time in the Reserves, and retiring as a Captain. After leaving active duty he began a very accomplished legal career of 30 years, serving as a government legal executive for several federal agencies and then transitioning to private practice. Don was the managing partner of the Washington offices of Saul, Ewing, Remick & Saul of Philadelphia, and the senior partner of his own firm. He then retired to the Northern VA area and was able to enjoy time at Lake Louisa along with writing and publishing several books. He continued to be an enthusiast of the Washington political scene in his retirement years, culminating at Green Springs.
Don continued to be an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church with over 50 years of membership. His legacy lives on and we will carry him in our hearts even now that he is gone.
