In Loving Memory of Mrs. Cuc-Hoa Thi Tran, Buddhist name Visakha (meaning Generous Lady) Cuc-Hoa Tran, 88, of Annandale, VA passed away peacefully at home on February 11 th, 2023 at 3:30 p.m., surrounded by family and friends. She was born on June 15th, 1934 in Bến Tre, Việt Nam from a large family of 9 siblings. She was (almost) the middle child having 2 older sisters, 1 older brother, 4 younger brothers, and a younger sister. She married Trung Buu Pham in early 1962 and he was by her side until her last breath. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Minh-Thu Pham, son-in-law, Nicholas Nhan Tran; son, Chanh Buu Pham, daughter-in-law, Thuy Phuong Ngo, and grandchildren: Nathan Trong-Nghia Tran, Vivian Quynh-Nhu Tran, Calvin Dinh-Chuong Pham, Victoria Phuong-Nghi Pham and Amanda Phuong-Di Pham. She is also survived by her two younger brothers along with many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Vietnam. She was a registered nurse before leaving Vietnam for the U.S. with her family in 1983 by boat via Malaysia refugee camps (Pulau Bidong and Sungei Besi). In the U.S., she worked various odd end jobs to help raise her family. She retired in 1996 from Fairfax Hospital to care for her first grandchild, Nathan; then more precious grandkids to follow, all under her care, Calvie, Vivian, Victoria and Amanda. In her spare time, she loved to travel, visiting friends, temples, and orphanages. She also enjoyed getting to know people and loved kids and pets. She lived a very generous, religious, and meaningful life, often attending meditation retreats, visiting temples, and helping all her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and whoever needed help. She had sponsored many monks and nuns to study for many years in India and Burma, as well as contributed to building temples and meditation centers. Her whole life was lived for others. Her favorite Vietnamese food was Bánh Mì and Hủ Tiếu, and her American regular visits were to “Five Guys” and “Popeyes Fried Chicken”. She had a long and fulfilling life! Please join our family at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, VA on February 19th, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon to celebrate a life well lived along with a traditional Vietnamese funeral service.
