She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph D. Johnson; sons Joseph II (Sarah) and Carl (Cindy); five grandchildren; and she is survived by her sister Helen. She was predeceased by a sister and a brother.
Bobbie was the Executive Secretary of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years, taking the minutes of their meetings and maintaining their financial records. She also provided secretarial services for the Springfield Tower Shopping Center Association and the State Farm Agents Association.
One of the positions she enjoyed was the Chief (or Assistant Chief) of the Forest Voting Precinct. Prior to her appointment as an Electoral Board Representative, she was serving as a poll watcher. She witnessed what in her mind was a voting violation while the votes were being counted. The next time she saw an Electoral Board Member, she asked how she could become a precinct official. The answer – just sign up. After that she spent over 30 years as a precinct official.
Her late father was Robert N. Denham, who was the First General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, charged with enforcing The Taft Hartley Act.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, August 31 at 11 am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. A light lunch will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bobbie’s memory to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, www.curealz.org.
