He was born to William and Sarah Jane McCullough on September 16, 1934 and was baptized into Christian faith shortly thereafter. Van attended school in Riggston, Winchester, and graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in Concordia, Missouri. He completed college there as well and graduated from Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Springfield in 1959. He married Yvonne Elinor Fargo in 1958 and they were blessed with two daughters, Elaine and Ellen.
Van faithfully served the Lord as a Lutheran Pastor for 37 years in Saskatchewan, Canada, Port Orchard, Washington, Albert Lea, Minnesota and Jacksonville and Springfield, Illinois. The years Pastor McCullough spent serving at Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard, WA., were a treasure to him. Van’s lifetime hobby centered around his enjoyment of railroads and model railroading.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, daughters Elaine (Scott) Huebner and Ellen (Steve) Soukup, brother Mark (Brenda) Allan, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Christian funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday February 24, 2017 at the Concordia Village Chapel, 4101 West Iles. The family will meet friends from 1:00pm until the time of service Friday at Concordia. A graveside service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday at Neelyville Lutheran Cemetery near Bluffs, Illinois.
