William Thomas Evans, 85, of Riverton, passed away on January 10, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 9, 1938 in Springfield to William H. Evans and Eva G. Bell. William married Joyce Kenoyer on August 3, 1958 in Williamsville and she survives.
Mr. Evans is also survived by his daughter Anne (Michael) Morris of Elkhart, five grandchildren: Evan (Theresa Strazisar) Wheeler, Victoria (Lucas) McCain, Kristi (Al Witty) Morris, Michael (Colleen) Morris and Nicholas (Heather) Morris, eight great-grandchildren: Clara and Abigail McCain, Zabian Morris, Sebastian (Monique) Morris, Julian Morris-Richards, Mason Durr, AnnaBelle Morris and Brendon Witty, one great-great grandchild Theodore Morris, one brother Glenn (Judy) Evans and several nieces and nephews.
William graduated from Illinois State University with his Bachelors of Science and Education Degree and from Sangamon State University with his Masters Degree. He taught social studies in Paxton, Illinois from 1960-1962 and he taught at Springfield High School from 1962-2000 serving as the social studies department chair. William was a twenty year volunteer tour guide at the Dana Thomas House and he enjoyed reading mystery novels, camping, traveling and antiquing. Bill moved back to his family farm in 1986, built a new home and spent the rest of his life there fulfilling a life long dream.
The family will greet friends on Monday January 15, 2024 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street. A funeral mass with Fr. Christopher Simpson officiating will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday January 16, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 402 Pekin Street in Lincoln, Illinois.
