Virginia Mae Ryan-Halloran, 87, of Chatham, formerly of Springfield, IL and St. Louis, MO, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital, with family by her side. She was born November 1, 1929 in Springfield to William B. and Hazel M. Mirus Ryan. Virginia graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School in 1943 and Ursuline Academy in 1947. She was deeply touched by the Ursuline Sisters she had as teachers, and entered the Ursuline Order after high school. Virginia completed her education, receiving 2 Masters Degrees. She had a passion for teaching and taught in San Antonio, Texas, Festus, Missouri, Kirkwood, Missouri and Alton, IL at Ursuline staffed schools until the time she left the Ursuline Order. In October of 1990, she married Thomas Halloran. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William A. and Bernard E. Ryan. Her husband, Thomas, died in 2010 and stepson, Kenny Halloran also preceded her in death. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Evelyn Bucci of Springfield and Madonna Shaughnessy of Pekin; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Virginia Halloran and Mary Halloran of St. Louis, Nancy Ryan and Ann Ryan both of Springfield; stepsons Dennis (Stephanie) Halloran and Kevin Halloran; and grandchildren, Shane, Amber, and Sean Halloran all of St. Louis.Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois in Chatham before services. Her family will greet friends from 9am until the time of the Memorial Mass at 10am, Saturday, September 30, at Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry Drive, Springfield, IL, 62704, with Fr. Joseph Ring officiating. Directly following this service, there will be a Remembrance Reception at 12pm noon, Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham, IL, 62629.
