He was born in Springfield on June 16, 1942, the son of Charles and Mary (Trello) Stevens. He married Diana K. Batson on August 4, 1962. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2020. He later married Julia G. Tobin on March 19, 2022, in Springfield.
Thomas attended St. James Trade School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee. He was a brick mason by trade and then became an accountant for the State of Illinois and individual tax preparer for many years. Thomas was a member of Knights of Columbus and Joe’s Club. One of his biggest accomplishments in life was raising his children with Diana. Thomas was also a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana; parents; brothers, Albert, Arthur, and Walter Stevens; and sister, Jeanette Schumer.
Thomas is survived by his son, Thomas (Cindy) Stevens of Jacksonville; daughter, Michelle (Jim) Braner of Pleasant Plains; grandchildren, Christopher Stevens of Jacksonville, Jami Braner of Springfield, and Kaci Braner of Lake Elsinore, CA; siblings, James H. Stevens and Anna Mae Graichen, all of Springfield; great-grandchild, Nevaeh Faith Stevens; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; wife, Julia Tobin and her sons, Lee, Curt, Justin, Shawn, and Scott.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. George Nellikunnel, S.A.C., officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Butler National Cemetery Gift Fund.
