Thelma Lucille Smith

She was born on March 1, 1937 in Palmyra, IL, the daughter of the late Ralph and Lucille (Miller) Vance. She married Dean George Smith on Sept. 29, 1962 in Palmyra, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1987.

Mrs. Smith was a very active member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church and she also volunteered at the Washington Street Mission for several years.

She is survived by 2 sons Timothy (wife Sandra) Smith of Belle Foursche, SD, and Stephen (wife Tonya) Smith of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Lisa and Jacob Smith; a sister Phyllis Kramer of Palmyra; 4 brothers, Donald (wife Irene) Vance of Shelbyville, IL, Norman (wife Janie) Vance of Palmyra, Coy (wife Brenda) Vance of Santa Maria, CA, and Kenneth Vance of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 10 am at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, with Rev. Gary Nelsen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington St. Mission.
