Shirley L. Hoskins, 88 of Springfield died at 6:08 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. Shirley was born July 16, 1927 in Metropolis, IL the daughter of Talmadge and Gertrude St. John Lynn. She married John R Hoskins, a United States Army Veteran, on December 22, 1945. He preceded her in death. Shirley attended Lincoln Land Community College, earning a certificate in Child Development. She worked in child development and child care for 21 years, including her last position as a Scope teacher with Springfield School District 186. Shirley enjoyed teaching children, playing the guitar, listening to music, writing poems, and spending time with her family. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son John M Hoskins-DeAngelo, her sister and best friend Jewel Krumwiede, and two brothers Millard Lynn and Lloyd Lynn. Shirley is survived by two, daughters: Sandra K. (Hayden) Yeazle and Shirley Lanzotti, both of Springfield; two sons: Charles K Hoskins of Springfield and United States Air Force Colonel James R. Hoskins of Washington, D.C.; four grandsons, Michael D. Hayden of Naples, FL, David T. Lanzotti of Springfield, Christopher Hoskins of Redmond, WA and Bradley Hoskins of Hampton, VA; two great grandchildren, David J.W. Lanzotti and Dedra S.A. Lanzotti of Springfield; one great, great grandchild, Delaney C.A. Lanzotti-Long, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 12:30 p.m. A private family graveside ceremony will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
