She was born on March 30, 1947, in Springfield, the daughter of Theodore E. and Dorothy A. (Laswell) Davis. Shirley married Kenneth “Ken” W. Fifer on July 3, 1965, in Springfield. He preceded her in death, on May 19, 2010.
Shirley graduated from Lanphier High School in 1965. She went on to work for the State of Illinois for four years, Prudential Life Insurance for 20 years, and lastly for herself as a day care owner. Shirley was a member of WIBC Bowling Association and Country Western Dance Club. She enjoyed reading, and emailing and playing games on her computer, and she loved Elvis Presley. Shirley’s family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Richard) Neu of Centralia and Dawn Fifer of Springfield; and grandchildren, Andrew Vollmer of Hoffman, IL and Blake Vollmer of Centralia.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:45 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, followed by a Ceremony at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Christopher Trummer officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Agnes Catholic Church or the Animal Protective League.
