Sally got her flare for life and the arts from her father, Jim, an actor/director and teacher. The love she had for animals was inherited from her mother, Vivian. Vivian was a healthcare worker for over thirty-three years in Quincy’s WCU building.
Sally loved to travel. She was a scuba diver, enjoyed to fish in Florida, and walk the famous halls of Paris’ Louvre and Italy’s Sistine Chapel. Venice and Paris were Sally’s favorite locations to stroll the streets at night.
Sally never met a dog she did not like or want to adopt. She had schnauzers, an Irish terrier, and most recently, her beloved havanese named Rags. A large part of Sally’s estate was left to a Springfield organization for the humane treatment of animals.
While having been raised in Quincy, Sally lived the majority of her life in Springfield. Sally was a lifeguard at the Flying Inn Swim Club of Quincy and a salesgirl at Quincy’s Mirror Clothing Store. Sally was passionate about her thirty-plus years of service in the Illinois Department of Public Aid as one of the Nation’s top authorities on interstate and international child support. She often traveled nationally to educate authorities (social workers, lawyers, and judges) on what federal assistance was and was not available.
Sally graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1966. Sally was a groundbreaker, as her favorite class in Junior High was Mr. Smay’s autoshop. She continued her education after high school, which led to her master’s degree in museology from Sangamon State University.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Kate Andrews Klein of Kansas City; and her daughter, Nina Gairani.
She is survived by her brother, Guy Andrews of Anaheim, CA; brother-in-law, Paul Klein of Kansas City; her niece, Christine Klein Smith of Kansas City; her two grandchildren, Nick Hagney and Andrea Gairani; as well as her son-in-law Matt Gairani. Other family includes Glenny Meyer, Tommy Geise, Mary Fisher, Susie Phillips, Jeff Scheucking, Lynn Scheucking, Christine Banta, and Bill Joe Bonansinga.
Sally will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery, also the final resting place for President Lincoln.
