Ricky was a loving, giving, supportive husband of 39 years, and a caring, always present father of three boys.
Ricky was born July 14, in New London, Conn. He has traveled the world; England, Italy, Spain, and all fifty states. Ricky served in the U S Navy, as a Seabee, and later, launching planes off the USS America. He worked in the oil fields
of Alaska as a young man. He was a member of the I.B.E.W., with Municipal Light and Power, Anchorage, Alaska. Ricky was well respected with his last employer, Burns & McDonnell, power plant operations, at the time of his passing. Ricky was a baseball coach for his boys when they were young. Together, with his boys, they built and raced stock cars. The family was often camping, fishing, and burning birdhouses.(a family joke)
Ricky loved and lived in San Antonio,Texas. He especially loved Gruene Hall, and Texas Pride Barbeque.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Cynthia, son, Aaron, his wife Jessica, and grandchildren Morgan, Trent, Natalie, Kirsten, Weston, and Greyson. His son, Eric, his companion Julie Hughes, and grandson Bronson Smith. One brother, Stephan, wife Susan, nieces Madison and Stevie. Aunts and cousins will be missing Ricky also. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ethel, a brother, a sister, his son Jerad, and his best friend Steven McKinney.

Services for Ricky are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, IL where visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 11 am until 12:30 pm. A graveside service will then be held at 1 pm at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and the Interveteran’s Burial Detail of Sangamon Co.
