Richard Howard “Andy” Anderson, 80, of Springfield died at 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at his residence. Richard was born November 17, 1922 in Springfield, son of Howard Lee and Ruth Alma Clendenin Anderson. He married Kathleen Kidwell on Jan. 18, 1942 in San Diego, CA., she preceded him in death on November 7, 1991. Mr. Anderson was employed as an installer for AT & T. He was a member of St. Agnes Church. He was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail. He served as former president of Springfield Trades and Labor Council and he was Down State Union Representative for the Communications Workers of America. Richard was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps.Veteran participating in defense of Guadalcanal, B.S.I., May 27 1943 – June 30, 1943, occupation of Rendova Island, B.S.I. July 2, 1943 – August 11, 1943, occupation and defense of New Georgia Island, B.S.I., August 11, 1943 – January 20, 1944, bombardment of enemy on Kolombangara, B.S.I. He was a member of 7th IL Calvary Company C reactivated in 1976 by the Governor at that time. He was active in the Marine Corps Toys For Tots Program. Richard was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed attending the Illinois State Fair. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Step-mother: Jean Thomas and one brother: William Anderson. He is survived by one son: Mark S. Anderson of Springfield, two daughters: Mary Lou Mitchell of Springfield and Patricia Anderson of Sod, WV, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two brothers: Edgar Anderson of Liberty, MO and Donald Anderson of Charlevoix, MI and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 2 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. Patrick J. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Church Building Fund, 245 N. Amos, Springfield, IL 62702.
