On June 13, 2024, two beloved souls - Renee Ellen Terry (née Leutenmayer) and Robert (Bob) Henry Terry, Jr. left behind their earthly presence and went on to whatever comes after. While we can’t be certain, we’re fairly sure it involves a never ending road trip with no traffic, endless bottles of great wine, and being surrounded by golden retrievers while resting amongst the most beautiful views and time spent with friends who left too soon.
Renee was many wonderful things. Amongst them a loving mother who adored her children, their families, and their friends. No one did Christmas quite like Renee who is fondly remembered for wrapping individual pairs of socks, candles, etc. to ensure the floor was not visible Christmas morning, and making sure every single person - family, friend, or visitor - had a gift… or dozen. Renee was a collector of all things moose related, likely influenced by living decades in New Hampshire, and leaves behind an eclectic collection that will make its way into the homes of many family and friends. Renee was the type of person you couldn’t possibly miss in a room. She was the life of the party with the biggest laugh and largest smile.
Bob will be forever remembered as being one of the smartest people everyone knew. He was always happiest when fixing something or figuring out how to do something better. This was a lifelong trait that led him to initially commission as an officer in the US Air Force and then continuing work as an electronics engineer as an Air Force Captain. After leaving the Air Force, Bob spent decades working as a systems engineer in the defense industry, inspiring his son Rob to do the same. In his spare time, Bob was an avid and skilled model airplane hobbyist, a handyman for his daughters’ home projects, an outdoorsman with many wild misadventures, and a lover of long roadtrips with Renee and Theo in their camper or putting the miles on his Harley. Bob could always be counted on for sound advice, a questionably bad dad joke, and the unwavering support of his children.
Renee and Bob are survived by their children, Robert (Jillian), Shane, Jesse (Kaylee), Shannon, Ivy (Brittany), and Morgan; Bob’s daughter from a previous marriage, Amanda, along with his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Bob and Renee’s grandchildren, Harper and Piper; Renee’s parents, Bill and Janet; Renee’s sisters, Rose (Rick), Therese (John), and Charlene (TJ); Bob’s sisters, Ann (Dan), Mary, Rose (Mike), Marcia, Lori (Kevin), and Carla (Ted); and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob and Renee also leave behind Theodore, the kindest and happiest golden retriever.
Renee and Bob are preceded in death by their daughter, Cheyenne; Renee’s brother, Billy; Bob’s sister, Nora; and Bob’s parents, Robert and Elizabeth.
The family will host a Celebration of Life for all who knew and loved Renee and Bob on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Springfield, IL, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Please contact one of Renee and Bob’s children for more details.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Animal Protective League of Springfield, IL, as Renee and Bob loved their dog family almost as much as they loved their human family.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
