Norma Eileen Duncan passed away on February 18th, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. Norma was born on September 16, 1928 in Middletown, Illinois to George and Birdie Mae (Giertz) Boward. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education and received a Master’s Degree from Illinois State University in 1979. She taught home economics at Grant Middle School in Springfield for many years. Norma loved to travel (Las Vegas and Florida were two of her favorite places), was a wonderful cook (her peach cobbler and Christmas cookies will always be legendary), could sew anything you wanted, and was never happier than when surrounded by her family. She was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church, Kings Daughters, and many bridge groups.
Norma is survived by her children: Lesley Duncan (Tom Morris), Shelley (Craig) Lukowicz and Kevin (Nancy) Duncan; 9 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jeremie (Ashley), Sean, Brett, Bradley, Adam, Joseph, Kelsey and Marcus. She is also survived by her sisters: Ilda Heinz, Mina Daumbacher, Harriet Richardson and Ellen “Babe” (Paul) Mason. She was preceded in death by Ralph Duncan her husband of 61 years, her parents; brothers: Raymond Boward, Theodore Boward, Albert Boward and sister: Minnie Carpenter.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield where visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at 9:30 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Jerry King officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
