Nona Mae Becker, age 91, passed away peacefully at Regency Care in Springfield, Illinois on November 2, 2022. She was born on March 1, 1931 in Parnell, Kentucky to John and Ida Reynolds. She married her longtime best friend, H. Harry Becker on February 2, 2002 who preceded her in death on April 18, 2016.
First and foremost Nona was a dedicated wife and mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as proud grandma to 7 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
During her longtime profession in retail management she won prizes and accolades for her creative displays of clothing and merchandise. During the 70’s she became the proprietor of Nona Mae Productions bringing musical talent to the Springfield and surrounding area.
Nona loved Big Band music and never missed an opportunity to “cut the rug” with anyone willing to share the dance floor. She was very social and would light up the room when gathering with friends wherever she went.
Her favorite pastimes included planting and arranging flowers, embroidery, baking and had an uncanny artistic ability to create beautiful handmade interior décor. During her later years she occupied her time listening to jazz, big band, blues and gospel as well as completing jigsaw puzzles.
Nona was predeceased by her parents, siblings Betty Stucker, Elvis Reynolds, Huey Reynolds, Harvey Reynolds and loving son Richard L. Gassdorf. She is survived by her daughters Joyce Whitenight of Montgomery, Texas and Kathy (Dennis Smith) Welker of Springfield, step children Howard, Sandi and Steven Becker from Florida; grandchildren, Angela, Kenny and Bryan Pihlman, Amanda (Richard Scott) Gassdorf, Kimberlee (Rob) Drascula, Jake (Brandy) Gassdorf, Jr., and Sean Welker, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. All whom she cherished along with her daughter in law Charlene Gassdorf and sister in law Bonnie Reynolds.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the care staff and friends at Regency Care in Springfield and the South Park Villas of Hollybrook in Chatham, Illinois.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Bisch and Son.
