Michael Paul Smith

Michael was born November 10, 1956, in Springfield, IL, the son of Wendell and Thelma Douthit Smith.

He was employed with Springfield Mechanical for a number of years. He was also the plumbing inspector for Sangamon County, and a member of the Plumbers/Steamfitter Union Local 137. Michael also previously worked for Doyle Plumbing in Jacksonville, IL. Michael loved getting in his car and exploring the country, especially Michigan, where he loved to go fishing. He loved playing his guitar, George Dickel bourbon, grilling, cooking, and restoring his 1964 Ford Fairlane. Michael was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Mike’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandsons, Jackson and Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Andrew Smith; and eight siblings, Steven L. Smith, Stephen O. Smith, Wanda Smith, June Powell, Tammy Scroggins, Elaine Smith, Barbara Phillips, and Philip W. Smith.

Michael is survived by his son, Justin (Crystal) Smith of Lake St. Louis, MO; daughters, Katie (Sam) Andel of Springfield and Brittany Smith of (Edwardsville); mother of his children, Sherrie Smith; grandchildren, Jackson and Bennett Smith; siblings, Donna (Gary) Dunbar, Wendy Smith-Hutchinson, Jeannie Lehman, and Wayne (Linda) Smith; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many great friends from all across the country.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Cathcart officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg, IL.
