Mary A. Urbanckas, 96, of Springfield, died at 10:44 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. Mary was born August 16, 1916 in Springfield, the daughter of Stanley and Agatha Mikalauskas Chernis. She married Peter J. "Pete" Urbanckas on September 3, 1939 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Springfield, by Rev. S.O. Yunker. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2001. Mary was a graduate of Springfield High School and a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, a lifelong member of the YMCA, the TRN Club and the Lithuanian American Club. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, polka dancing, socializing, gardening, and loved going to the Illinois State Fair. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Stanley J. Chernis. She is survived by her two daughters, Pat (husband, Tony) Mathews and Donna E. (husband, G. Robert "Bob," deceased) Frost, both of Springfield; four grandchildren, Scott Mathews, Troy Mathews, Jennifer (husband, Tom) Berola, and Brent Frost; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Berola; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
